Unhappy PHP/Apache/MySQL

I've installed apache2 and got it all working, or so I thought but I am now getting this interesting message when trying to start or stop apache using apachectl stop (or start)

httpd: module "sapi_apache2.c" is not compatible with this version of apache.
Please contact the vendor for the correct version.

Any ideas?

I also have 2 instances of the httpd.conf file.

One in /usr/local/apache2/conf/httpd.conf and one in /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf

Do I have two lots of apache installed and does changing the conf files of one affect the other.

PHP is not working in apache as far as I can determine.

By the by, I've dug around for most of the day, looking for a solution to this one and so far the most promising thing I've found comes from this bug report on php.net

http://bugs.php.net/bug.php?id=17826

I've downloaded the latest php CVS from here:-

http://snaps.php.net/php4-latest.tar.gz

I'm trying this out as I type this. Fingers crossed...

Careful now.. what distro are you using... was there an install before - sounds like that might be the case... did you do your own install or was it rpm'ed

Might be able to help out if you're a bit more specific.

I decided to go with www.apachetoolbox.com s excellent package which downloads and installs most of the web stuff you need. It really is worth checking out if all else fails.

Thanks to those who offered their help
