gnupg.org documentation manuals

you will find excellent GPG support in Thunderbird, also in Echelon and in Claws mail. For Thunderbird: add the ENIGMAIL plug-in if it's not already present.

For starters, run this and make sure you have GPG2:

Quote:
gpg2 --version
you should have gpg2. let us know if you don't. we'll give you the command to install it.

WARNING: under no circimstances should you uninstall gpg ( standard version ). Repeat: you add gpg2 you DO NOT un-install the standard version. you'll kill the software update thing if you do.

here, as on the MINT board if you wish to send test e/mails using GPG you may send me test messages at mike_acker@charter.net
subject line should be
Quote:
MINT Forum GPG Test
let me know what your questions are !

Also:

"PGP® = Pretty Good Privacy®" is a proprietary product.

"GPG = GNU Privacy Guard" is an open-source equivalent.

For VPN purposes, I suggest OpenVPN, which in my experience is much easier to use and to manage than IPSec/OpenSWAN. Either one is available as a Ubuntu package.

But first, "do some reading, do some thinking." Carefully consider your objectives. And, please, ask plentious questions here on LQ!
