Persistent Driver Installation
 

I am a definite new comer to Linux (Redhat) and whose UNIX/Solaris knowledge is very rusty. I have 3rd party hardware that I'm trying to install into a Dell Redhat machine; the vendor supplied software includes a driver install script that must be run everytime the machine is booted when the users login (as compared to the install script for UNIX). The driver also requires that environmental variables be set first (e.g. location of config files, etc).

I would like to have the driver loaded by the kernel on powerup to avoid the potential necessity of having user involvement. I have been through many searches and have not found what should be the best way to do this. Any suggestions that anyone has would be greatly appreciated.

It would help if you stated what hardware you're needing the driver for. Otherwise, we have no idea.

Typically driver modules are installed to the hard drive and loaded when needed.

The module is a custom reflective memory module (known as SCRAMNet) that is now sold by Curtiss Wright (which acquired the original manufacturer/Systran about 4 years ago). Basic concept is that it allows distributed memory to be "shared" between disparate computer systems in real time with minimal latency.
