What distro are you using? alot of them dont compile NTFS RW support into the kernel.
Some say it's still too unsafe, some say it is pretty decent now, the easiest is still using a FAT32 which both OS' support RW 100% to |
AFAMyKnowledgeGoes ntfs write support is not yet that robust. Yet you can find several third party tools that can do this job for you.

If you compile your own kernel you can make sure to add NTFS r/w support. There's plenty of guides out there that can help you.

2. i have a second hard drive that i have installed SUSE 10.0, but when i try playing mp3 files, and .avi files from my ntfs windows partitions it cant play how do i go about this. 3. under the SUSE system when i try installing avg antivirus which is an RPM package i get an error saying something like no support files for the package please help. |
A simple search for "kernel compile guide" gives you 600 results. There must be something useful in there. And a Google search for "linux kernel compile guide" has 2,810,000 results. Also, in LQ tutorials under programming, they have a Kernel Compilation HOWTO. See if that helps, and if you have problems, that's what the forum's for.

wait
i'd wait a bit until you start writing to ntfs, then you don't have to worry about compiling a new kernel and messing your system up, as for the mp3's have you mounted the HDD because they won't play unless there apart of the local filesystem

the mp3 files are on ntfs partition which i have already mounted to my SUSE system, when i click on an mp3 file it opens amarok player but it does not play, same when i open the player and select a playlist it shows the list randomly on the interface one by one without playing them. And the video player also brings an error saying that it encountered an error while trying to open the file
