permissions on mounted smbfs--

Hi

I just installed Red Hat Linux V 9 (2.4.20-18.9).
I attempted to mount a smb file system using the following options:
"user,noauto,suid,exec,workgroup=RENT 0 0".

the mount is executed without error and I can see my files.
Yet, I found that all permissions are viewed as 755.

When I tried to "chmod 700 z", for example, I got the following error message:

chmod: changing permissions of `z' (requested: 0700, actual: 0755): Operation not permitted

Q: How can I see the correct permissions?
Q: How can I change the existing permissions?

Thanks in advance for your reply.
