Permissions home dir reset automatically

Hi there,

I am trying to get a homepage on the internet, but I am having troubles with the permissions. I have a structure like this: \home\username\public_html which contains an index.html file. The first time in a webbrowser I got the errormessage: 403 Permission denied.
Then I changed the permissions of \home and \username to be world exectutable and then....wow...it worked.
But after an hour or so, I got the same errormessage again. And when I checked the permissions again, thy were set back automatically.

How can this be??
I have Mandrake 9.2 as distro.

Thanx.

mod_userdir is a recent post here that has information that you could use, about an apache module that does this.

hope this helps
