Permission issues after installing external USB disk drive

Hi all,

I've just installed and mounted an external USB hard drive. Everything seemed to go well but there are a few issues:

I've done everything as root. As root I've created a folder on the drive and try to chmod that to 777. I don't get any errors but the permissions remain 755.

Another issue is regarding the folder names that I've copied to it. Those are music (artist folders). Folders that contained only caps (and or numbers) - like 'REM' or 'U2' - are suddenly converted to non-caps - 'rem' and u2' - while folder names like 'Tracy Chapman' remain unchanged.

Could anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong or what I need to adjust?

Your help is highly appreciated!

Thanks,

Maarten

What file-system did you choose, how did you mount it?

Cheers,
Tink

Hi Tinkster,

The disk came preformatted as FAT32. I'd like to keep it that way so I can access it from Windows too.

I've created a folder /usbhdd first and then used:

mount /dev/sda1 /usbhdd (or was it mount /usbhdd /dev/sda1, I can't check that right now).

I hope you can help me further!

Thanks,

Maarten
