Permission Denied to Super User?

Hey Guys,
Here is the problem with my super user account I try to access a folder who belongs to another user and another group, but it won't let me in there. Maybe I just don't understand the heiarchy but to me a super user should beable to access any directory.

What are the permissions of that folder? do a:

ls -l /path/to/folder

Can the folder owner access that folder?
What errors do you get when you try to access it with your Super User?

If the directory is not executable at any level then no one will be able to access the directory.

stat /path/to/directory

Using ls -l will get you long listings of all the contents of the directory in question, but no relevant info on the directory itself, unless you include -a, in which case the "." entry (at the very top) is the one you want to look at. Stat just gives you less output to sift thru. The most common reason for a superuser getting 'Permission Denied' errors is trying to run a script that doesn't have the executable bit set; directories can still be traversed into as root even if all execute permissions are removed (at least on Fedora and Debian). Post the results of the above command and the error message you get when trying to cd into the directory as root?
