permission denied to paste files to secure micro chip. 'owner' is 'root'.

Permission denied to paste files from my docs/user/home to secure digital memory chip but not to a pen drive.
I am the owner. this on a Asus Eee, Ubuntoo type Linux. This version of Linux was installed and set up by a friend who is far more knowledgable than I on such matters but who is unavailble to help. I am at 'ignorant' level of Linux. I have read the 'new users' sections on this website and also searched through the forum for Newbies. Any suggestions on the direction to search for the solution are welcome. thanks.

welcome to LQ!!

If I read correctly, you can copy files to a USB pen drive, but not to an SD card.

How is the SD card mounted?---e.g. did you simply plug it in and it was automatically mounted?

Any chance that the card is locked? I didn't know that SD cards had this feature till I looked at one after reading your post.
