Permission denied as Root!
I'm trying to set up my Alcatel Speedtouch modem since I can't afford a new modem, but I'll try and just state my question now:
Say i've just booted into runlevel 2.
I type:
cd /root
./startadsl
and it replies:
bash: ./startadsl : Permission denied
I know I'm logged in as root because my command line is: root@tty4[root]#
Ive also tried: ls -l startadsl
and I own the file
and: chmod -rxw startadsl
Which seems to run fine since it doesn't throw up any arguments, so now I don't know what to try!
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Hi, im not 2 sure about the permission problem, try messing with chmod a bit maybe? Anyway, if you are using a speedtouch adsl modem, you can probably program it to be a router. This way you your modem dials up for you, and it acts as a firewall. You can use DHCP, and all your setting (ip etc..) will be automatic. This page showed me how to do it with my modem: http://www.weethet.nl/english/adsl_m...lcatelhack.php . Best of luck

Looked great, then I realized it was for the Analogue or ISDN version of the modem (mines USB - I didn't mention that above) thanks anyway, wonder what other hardware I could hack (and btw it says on that guys site that the place he got the hack isn't there no more, has he never seen www.archive.org's store of almost every page ever to see the light of day?? (People are constantly amazed by that site when I show it to them!)
I think I'll go hunt out a detailed Speedtouch howto, I was hoping this would do the job: http://www.knoppix-std.org/forum/vie...hlight=alcatel but I've run into problems methinks
