Permision denied to admin
Hi, Not sure which forum I should be in? can anyone help me?
I've tried to use the simple Wizard to install the necessary multimedia codecs for openSUSE 11 but... "Software installation The installation has failed. For more information, see the log file at /var/log/YaST2/y2log. Failure stage was: unknown Error Message Root privileges are required. Either they were not supplied, or an unknown error occurred. " /var/log/YaST2/y2log wont allow me, the admin, to open this directory, and i'm not sure of terms needed to use the terminal. This was a simple procedure in 10.3! Thanks |
Installing stuff is usually a 'root' privilege--- i.e. average everyday users cannot install or remove software- it's a security thing. When you installed SuSe you set two passwords... one was for your regular old account.... so the nnjond password, you also set a root/admin. password. It is kinda weird that you can't do this from yast..... i would try this...
Open the command line Code:
su Code:
yast Code:
yast2 |
The login you are using to install these softwares - does it have root privileges?
If not try to login as the SU and then perform the installations. Hope this helps! :) Linux Archive |
