Permanent highlighted folders on Desktop

Hello. I have all the icons on my Desktop highlighted as if they were selected. This appears to be permanent. I cannot find a way to "un-select" them. I have Linux Mint 17.2 Rafaela XFCE. Can somebody tell me what to do? Thank you in advance.

If you create a new icon, does that look "permanently selected" too?

It may be a visual effect and they may not actually be selected. Have you tried a click-drag to see if they all move (which they should do if they are all selected)?

If they don't, try changing the theme and see if the problem persists.

If I try to move a single icon or folder from my Desktop it moves normally, all the remaining icons/folders don't follow. So, they just look as if they were selected, but they don't act like it. Now I've upgraded to Linux Mint 17.3 Rafaela XFCE and the problem persists. I've also tried to change the theme, nothing happens. I don't know what to do anymore...

Ok, it looks like it's a visual setting then.

I'm no expert, I'm just taking it one step at a time like you. Don't give up. :-)

Could you paste the contents of ~/.gtkrc-2.0 and ~/.gtkrc-xfce please?
