Perhaps stupid even for a newbie, but I could really use help with Kopete.

Being a :newbie: may not be a good defense, but I am truly stumped. When I try to use Kopete (Kde messenger) I get this error message;
____________________________________________________________
ISpell/Aspell could not be started. Please make sure you have ISpell or Aspell properly configured and in your PATH.
____________________________________________________________

As such, I really have no idea of what to do to fix the problem and I cannot seem to find any kind of man files or docs to give me instructions. Can someone help me please?

well, i would start by checking to make sure you have one of those installed (they're dictionaries, unless i'm mistaken). the easiest way to do that is probably through the configuration gui - somewhere in the menu there is an option to add or remove software. if you don't have them, it should be an easy solution to install them (mandrake should handle it all automatically)

can you start kopete at all? if you can and one of those packages is installed, then you might just need to tell it where to look...

hope that helps,

Thanks mcd, but I would need more help.

I need to check on the dictionary stuff, but I seem to remember installing an rpm for that one. Of course, I do know that I have and have used many different fonts already for my MSN and Yahoo messenger clones along with also used in my open office word processor. So I do not understand the problem in Kopete, especially being mdk rpm installed.

Of course, I am also thinking it may be some kind of a glitch in the programming, but I (being a :newbie: to the extreme extent) do not have any idea of how to handle telling Kopete where to look for the fonts. I am trying to learn, but am not there yet. Can you or anyone help me with that?

those are definity dictionaries - as in spell checkers. unfortunately, i have never used Kopete, so i don't know how to configure it. if you can find your ISpell or ASpell install, then see if you can find man pages or readme files on kopete that would help you specify which directory it should look in.

sorry i couldn't be more help...
