performing tasks as root

In the Redhat Online Manual: Getting Started, it says " Do not perform routine tasks as root — use a regular user account unless you need to use the root account for system administration tasks." I was wondering why that is. Why should I do this? It does not have an explanation to go with it.

"It is not recommended to log in to your root account for common computing tasks, as you may damage your system or unintentionally delete a file."
