pen drive permissions

its a bit of a trivial one but its narking me.

when you attache a pen drive with windows you can drag from the pen drive to the desk top, and visa versa.

with Linux logged in as normal user I can drag files from pen drive to Desktop but not the other way around

my pen drive is TITANIUM and at /dev/sdb1 mounted at /media/TITANIUM so I have to use
cp /home/user/Desktop/file /media/TITANIUM as root

bit of a drag. If I log in as root I can drag files from pen drive to desktop and also from Desktop to pen drive. is there an easy way to give permissions for normal user. I had a look a groups and it has scanner, printer etc listed ,can I amend groups somehow to enable same permissions for pen drive access as root ?

What filesystem is the pendrive formatted with ?
Which version ("Distro") of linux are you running ?
What is the output of
ls -l /media/

I was thinking it was formatted in ntfs but that doesn't make any sense.

How are you mounting it?

You probably need to change the permissions &/or ownership levels of the pen drive. I can tell you only that the usual mechanism for doing that is the udev system. I'm not well enough acquainted with the system to coach you on the exact way to configure it. There is generally a system of files and directories in /etc/udev.... which control how devices get various attributes applied. The organizations used seem to vary significantly from distro to distro. There is probably also a connection to the hotplug system, which allows the event of a device being plugged in to trigger the udev configuration process.
