PCtel Modem HSP56 MR

I Installed 2 Operating systems on 1 hard drive. (winxp & linux redhat9). Windows uses an internal (PCtel HSP56 MR) modem. Problems on the other hand with linux redhat9.

The system does not detect any modem.

Will the 1 modem work with both operating systems if I get the drivers for linux?

I dowloaded scanModem to floppy but can't set it up to work in linuxredhat9. How do I get this to work?

Should I just go out and buy an external modem for linuxrd9?

Please advise?

Thankyou.

you have to get the pctel drivers for linux, you need to compile them against your kernel code so make sure thats hanging around in the usuall places. The pctel website used to offer the drivers but no longer, you'll have to do some googleing. Oh yeah, and they will only work with a 2.4.x kernel. *ouch*

the set-up appears to be as follows:
kernel for linux red hat 9 is 2.4.20-8 on an i686
I got as far as downloading scanModem on a floppy disk but don't know the procedure to get it working on linux. Compile against kernel?.... again stuck on the terminology!..I'm looking for the drivers for the PCtel HSP56 MR linux. Then I will return. Thanks.
