PCRE Configuring MDK10

I have just finished installing MDK 10 and am present trying to complile the mudmagic client for linux. I run the configure script and it gets up to PCRE and says it cant find it. I double checked that I had it by reinstalling it from disk 4. I then confirmed I had it by running pcretest from the prompt. The problem is that the configure script wont find it. I was told that this could be due to mdk placing stuff in wierd libraries? Being new to Linux I have no idea how to recify this problem.

Any help or commands walk throughs are greatly appreciated!

Also while on the subject of Mud related stuff, anyone have any idea why Kmud wont let me connect under MDK 10? I can get it to load up and all but on conmnection it automatically tells me "unknown host" yet I can connect through telnet which I figure would be the same protocol? :
