PCLinuxOS Internet

After viewing many different live cds to see which linux is right for me, I have found one that seems to be exactly what I am looking for! PCLinuxOS

Only except, there is one major problem. I cant seem to get the internet working. I am using a Dell Latitude C600 notebook (650Mhz, 128Mb RAM). The orignal ethernet card had died on me about a year ago, and I am currently using the card slot http://ca.geocities.com/kcnguyen@rog...00BackView.jpg
It is in #4 in this image.

I want to install this OS, but I dont want to do it if I cant get the internet to work. Knoppix detected my internet perfectly. When pclinux is loading up, and is starting PCMIA, it does tell me that that it is starting a ethernet device(says it in its own fancy way), only except that it does not actually start the ethernet (the router activity light stays off (comes on when the card is on, flickers when connection is being used).

What is going on here, and is it fixable? I dont want to install anything until I know that it works!

Try looking here:
"The PCLinuxOS New User Guide Wiki"
http://www.pclinuxonline.com/wiki/HomePage

Or the PCLOS forum.

thanks for the link. I found a way to get the PCMCIA card going, but it still will not connect to the internet. Is there a way to refresh the ip address or renew the connection?

Hi,

You may want to look in the OS control center

main menu -> configuration -> PCLinuxOS control center (you will need to supply the root password)

from there, click on the Networking tab

You will see several potentially helpful gui config tools there, including Reconfigure network interface, Remove a network interface, Create a new network interface, Configure DNS settings (IP address), and Monitor network connections

Under Reconfigure network interface, you might be offered to choose your ethernet card from the pulldown options at the top of the screen.

Under Configure DNS settings, you should see a screen in which you are informed that the OS is testing for your connection. Don't worry if it tells you that the test failed. This happens with my connection, but I am still connected to the internet *shrug*

Under Create new network connection, it looks like it will walk you through the activation of you ethernet card.

It might be a good idea to also post at http://www.pclinuxonline.com, as I think that board is specific to PCLinuxOS.

I agree, this is the easiest distro out there, as far as I can tell.
