I have downloaded (to DVD and then into my laptop) a Linux operating system in order to replace my existing OS, Windows XP.
I managed to get Linux to operate but there are many facilities within the OS that do not work. In particular I cannot connect to Wifi to get access to the internet.
Apart from regular use of a spreadsheet and occasional use of a Word type program I use the laptop everyday for internet access.
How do I find instructions to instal this facility and others?
Please open a Terminal and post the results of these individual commands using code tags (highlight the output and then click on #, above the text box):
Code:
lspci -nnk | grep -i net -A2
lsmod
sudo lshw -C network
rfkill list
Let us know how it goes. From what I understand, you will need to use the "wl" driver for your particular wireless chip. If you have any issues, please let us know. You can also look through the threads here to see if you can find a solution.
