PCLinuxOS 2009 SAMBA and WINE configurations

I have been "playing" with PCLOS for over a week now and still encounter various problems I am unable to solve. I am a total Newbie and "Bill-Gates-damaged", trying to replace his rubbish with decent OS and programs.
My questions:[LIST=1][*]We are running a small home network via router and the Windows PCs can see PCLOS. On PCLOS I cannot see any of the other machines. I don't know where and how I can configure Samba correctly.[*]I need to run my accounting software in PCLOS and have installed Wine. Can anyone tell me how to get a shortcut or icon somewhere so I can access the program?[*]I have figured out that I need to run an update via Repository in Synaptic. After blocking my PC for almost a day to download all upgrades, it seems they are not installed as Synaptic still shows 534 updates to be installed. Is there a way of checking this? And why were the updates not installed?

Another problems seems to be that my PC hangs up on various applications (e.g. closing Firefox, Synaptic not responding).

Please excuse if I sound pretty darn but I would really appreciate some answers. Thanx in advance

Hi,

Welcome to LQ!

'SAMBA.org' is a good place to start. :)

I use 'Slackware' but 'Quick and dirty Samba setup' or 'SMB-HOWTO' should aid you generally.

These links and others are available from 'Slackware-Links'. More than just SlackwareŽ links!
