Post PC Locks up on boot...Slackware 12.0

Hello all;

Here is the problem...I installed Slackware 12.0, ran xorgsetup and got x running. then i went to setup internet through ethernet...ran netconfig right and then typed in all the information. when i rebooted, my pc locked up during the boot sequence and everytime since then at the same point. i have let the pc sit for over an hour...don't think it's working in background. here are the last 3 lines on screen.

Starting sysklogd daemons: /usr/sbin/syslogd /usr/sbin/klogd -c 3 -x
Updating X fong indexes: /usr/bin/fc-cache -f &
Triggering udev events: /sbin/udevtrigger --retry-failed

it locks on the last line 'Triggering udev events:". any ideas? i'm sure i can reformat but i'd like to fix it and learn what exactly went wrong. thanks guys

Which kernel? Did you try booting the cd1 again? See if there are any errors for the huge kernel when you boot the cd1.

Look at your system logs for errors; 'var/log'.
