PC locks up after os selection linux wont boot

Hello i am very new to Linux and i am having a boot problem. To start out my system specs are as follows:

Processor: Intel (R) Core (tm) i5-2500k cpu@3.30Ghz

Mobo is a Asus P8p67LE

Video card is a Amd R7 200 Series 2Gb

Im running a dual-boot sytem on a single hdd with Vista Buisness 32 bit already installed and Play-Linux also installed. Everything seemed to install fine. When i rebooted after Play-linux install (which i installed from a burned iso on to a disc that i verified) i get the Grub (not sure if its grub 1 or 2 ) and select my linux os. It goes to a black screen for a a bit then goes to the Play-Linux logo and then locks up. I have to use the Nomodeset fix to get that far. I REALLY want to use Linux plaese help me. im more info is need let me know what u need and perferably how to get it. i know hardly anything about Linux. Thank you

Did you try booting a version of Linux from a DVD or USB to run as a "live" version to check that everything works?

Does this happen on Vista also?

Have you changed any hardware recently?
