PC keeps crashing

Hi I'm pretty new to linux. Installed my first version of linux two weeks ago.
There's something wrong with my system though. The computer will run fine for a few days and then it will start playing up. The mouse will suddenly stop moving, the system grinds to a halt and I can't even boot up anymore.
Being a newbie, I felt the only way to fix this is to do a fresh reinstall. But I can't keep reinstalling it every 3 days

I don't even know if it's hardware or software related. If anyone can shed some light or even point me in a direction where I can get some answers, I'd really appreciate it

My system:
AthlonXP 2500
1Gb RAM DDR333
Radeon 9200SE
Western Digital: swap partition = 2Gb
root partition = 74Gb

Installing Fedora Core 1
Single boot machine

it sounds like a hardware issue... it's VERY weird for linux to work one day and not the other if you haven't done anything to it as "root"...
