PC Activity/Cable Modem

Just installed SUSI (64bit version 10). Can't get onto the internet. SUSI recognizes my ethernet card.
I've got a Motorola SB5101 SURFboard Cable Modem. It has a 'PC Activity' light that is normally blinking constantly when I'm running Win XP, but doesn't blink at all when I fire up SUSI. Makes me believe that the ethernet card isn't talking to the modem.
I have noticed that when (in SUSI) I go to the area that allows me to configure the ethernet card, the modem's 'PC Activity' light does blink (i.e. the card is evidently talking to the modem.)
Is there something that I need to run or a service that I need to start before I can expect the card to talk to the modem under Linux?

Thanks!

You could try pinging the modem at 192.168.100.1 and If you can do that then the connection to the modem is good. Then try to ping yahoo.com or cisco.com to see if the modem is talking to the Internet,
If you can ping the internet then it seems to me that you might have a Browser issue.
If you had constant pc activity light blinking in XP even when you were not surfing you might have had some Spyware communicating with it's server.

Thanks to all who replied. I managed to get things working by re-configuring things so that I start (control) the network connection manually as-opposed-to having it auto start at bootup or any of the other options.
Go figure!

Thanks again.
