FUD:D: Has UEFI finally found THE way to KILL Linux?

Thanks d., but Idk enuf Linux (yet) to create a 'respin'.
Can you hand me a link to a 'better' (than AntiX) .iso?

Do I need some "PCI Settings" to enable wifi (/touchscreen)???
(pic WiP)

From post#12 2nd pic, BIOS options, -> "Security Config",
I only get one (short so not worth pic'ing)
"Advanced" screen, that only gives me TXE (Enabled)
and "TXE Unconfig Perform" (Revert TXE settings to factory defaults)

Should I Disable that? Or do Unconfig? (guarantee won't brick me?)

Ok, I just tried BOTH, and (apparently) NO difference
(now only 1 choice remains: TXE [Disabled] )

UEFI.org seems to have finally developed a way to LOCK OUT Linux

Ack #17: WOW! WorkInProgress WiP ... Thanks in Advance TiA
Linux *ONLY* runs in VBox, so which 'small' .iso? NuTyX ok?

I would have txe in bios disabled

Yes, you can, take some drag and drop and a leap of faith
download the 64 bit ISO of your favorite ubuntu based linux distro
go here
download the file isorespin.sh which you will find on that page
open a terminal
drag and drop the isorespin.sh file to the terminal window, type -i, drag and drop the downloaded ISO to the terminal window, type -u, hit enter, sit back for a while (can take a long time) until it finishes. find the respun iso, and burn it to usb, boot from the usb and install your ubuntu flavour. Happy booting, it just works, at least on my machines.

then starts the search for drivers for anything that does not work the way you'd like ... in my case, no touchscreen.

and for when you get brave go here I am not brave enough yet ...

Thumbs down RTL8723B* Hades

Is there any distribution that supports RTL8723BS as-is?

I ask because, I haven't gotten isorespin.sh to run on M$Win7 laptop yet, sorry.

Added: I bot a $7 EdiMax EW-7611ULB (turned out to be RTL8723BU),
in hopes some/any kernel would see it. Nope.
Their superb&fast 800-tec-supp said: max 3.19 kernel else github (&emailed link)

But but BUT I want something that 'just works' (like Slackware);
none of this NON-M$WinDummyIdiot doing anything. Period. Full-stop.

I guess I shouldn't 'touch' anything less than 10yo. and go back to XP

This is the only machine you have access to? Hard to get me head around that. If it is the only one, go buy another full laptop in the morning and return it by the evening. Or ask a friendly clerk to use one of those on display for a while. Either way:

Grab any live distro on a USB stick, boot it on another computer, run the linuxium from the live USB distro on other computer, burn the resulting linuxium to USB and plug that in the atom netbook/tablet. Off you go

Don't despair, you'll get there. I put mine aside for the mo as work came up, but will pick it up again in a good week.
