Paths and Afterinstall Distro Programs
I recently had to reinstall my version of Yellow Dog. In the haze of 3 AM I forgot to install a few (for me) rather important packages that came with my distro CDs. I've never had to add these basic programs after the fact so I was wondering if it is possible to install RPM packages, let's say, from my distro CDs after having everything set up.
Secondly, and this is a very basic question, where are third party programs usually stored? I have a /usr and /usr/local partition. Do I simply build the file or use the rpm command in the folder I want my program created? Now that I have very limited disk space this is an issue for me, but never was before hence why I suppose I never figured this out. Thanks in advance! |
Okay so I figured how to install the RPMS. Did not think it was so easy. All I need to do is mount the cdroms and find the folder containing the rpms and proceede as normal.
The path question is still pertinent however. Thanks again. |
