Patching LinNeighborhood

I am trying to patch my LinNeighorhood program with the LinNeighborhood-0.6.5-samba3.patch. However, I have never pacthed a program so am not sure what to do. I think I need to do something like this: #patch p1 << LinNeighborhood-0.6.5-samba3.patch but what file and will I need to recompile and reload?

Most commonly you'll cd into the sources' main
directory, and invoke patch from there. The patch-
file contains information about which files to patch.

I wouldn't bother. I read about having to patch it, and that smb4k was a better alternative. I now use it to mount and browse Windows shares. It's excellent. Version 0.4.1a is the current version. I'm using it on Suse.
