?patching? kernel 2.4.21.for agpgart in mdk 9.1

Hi all, This is another newbie question...please help! I'm back to mdk 9.1 (dl'd version). It installs kernel 2.4.21. I want to get the nvidia unified drivers and the 9700 pro drivers installed. I did search the forums and google for this but the results seem very varied and just leave me more confused! Here's the question. Nvidia's readme for patching the kernel for agpgart states it will only work with 2.4.20. Any other kernel..the changes need to be manually merged to the kernel..or I need to install 2.4.20. I've found a ton of material on upgrading to a newer kernel, found some confusing material on going back to an older version. Which is recommended...different kernel or merging changes? And how would I proceed with this? Please, I am very new to linux and still trying to learn the very basics. Thanks in advance for any replies
