pata_serverworks driver

All,

I recently aquired a Dell Poweredge 600SC. It was loaded with Fedora 3.

I tried upgrading to 12, didn't work.

I tried upgrading to 8... it got hung on pata_serverworks driver.

Now trying to upgrade to 7, its doing the same thing.

Can someone help me out with this? Im a Winders kinda' gal, and this Linux thing is throwing me for a loop. Is there a differnet version I need to install before jumping up this much?

if so, which version? and where can i find the ISO for it?

Thanks in advance!

Alli

Are you set in your ways with Fedora? Would you consider something else? The point of all these distros is that you keep trying them until one fits your needs as well as possible, then through a bit of configuration and jiggling about get it closer to what you want.

And right now, your needs are mainly based around getting one to work

I would consider something different. What would you suggest?

Can you boot anything on it at the moment? If you can, lets see whats in /proc/cpuinfo and /proc/meminfo and we can suss out whats going to work out best.

(If you can't, just means a little trial and error, so get yourself a cup of coffee and get ready to watch some downloads)

I think drivers for linux should be on the dell site. Boot to live cd to be sure. I'd bet opensuse would support it out of box.
