partitoning for two distributions

Hey guys i searched but foud that the other threads didn't really explain what they are saying. Right now I have a dual boot XP and Mandrake 9.1 system with seperate HDD's for each OS. I want to repartiton the Mandrake disk so I can add a new distro (either Slack, or Debian) Its an 80 gig drive so I was wondering how you guys would partion it. Should I skip /home partitions all together and just have a /mnt/shared partition to use with both systems. Also should I make seperate /boot/ partitions and if so what is the plus to this since i don't now what /boot/ does. Also is it relativly simple to reconfigure
LILO to boot 2 linuxes.

Thanks for all you help guys,

Jared

I would (do) use a shared /home partition, single /boot & swap, then individual:
/usr
/var
/

partitions.
