Question Partitions and partition table type?

I am installing ubuntu minimal cd. I got to the part about partitioning the hard drive.

When selecting to do it manually, the first question is what type of partition table to use. The default it was on was msdos. Is this correct for Linux? I know gpt was there, but I don't want volumes, so I was wondering if msdos is the standard original type that linux uses. It did work and I was able to create a swap area and ext4 partition for root. I'm continuing with the install, but I was wondering if I missed something?

You should use GPT if possible!
The partitioning depends on the needs of your installation.

Yeah, I needed msdos. I just finished googleing. MSDOS is aka MBR but most recommend GPT since it's much newer and more versatile.
