First and foremost, you sure ensure that you have defragged the harddrive/partition in question before you go chopping it up. Often Partition Magic is quoted as being good for splitting partitions nicely, but so long as you know your data doesn't spread right across your drive/partition, you should be alright using Parted (from something like a Knoppix disc) or using your distro's installer's harddrive tool (disk druid?).

definitely find a way to get a copy of partition magic 8; reduce the size of your ntfs (i assume that fileystem is what you use) partition and leave the end of your disc free, unformatted, and unallocated

i see you will want to install redhat; just let the installer automatically create the partitions for you from that free space

like stated above, do defrag your hard drive, run scandisk

if you can't find a way to get PM8, download the first disc to mandrake and use it to reduce your ntfs partition and create new linux partitions; you will probably need to install mandrake, but just install over it with redhat

My opinion for partition magic, get an installer off of kazza and then crack it.

You may not get support, but *shrug* im to cheap to buy it.

I use BootIt partition manager and it hasn't given me any problems. I have done quite a bit of partition manipulation and I haven't lost any data. Oh ya, and it's free :-)
