Partition table problem with Mandrake 9.2 and Win XP

I have 2 hard disks on my PC.
My primary master disk has 3 partitions, all formatted in NTFS and Windows XP installed on the first one.
When I install Mandrake 9.2 (the same happens with Red Hat) on the primary slave, the setup program complains my partition table on hda is incorrect and will be fixed. The problem is that, after that, my Windows XP doesn't recognize my second partition anymore!

I can fix the problem with partition magic, which reports the partition as "hidden", when I boot linux, it "fixes" the partitions again.

Maybe my partition table is really incorrect but it works and I don't want linux to mess with it. How can I prevent both the setup program and the boot programs changing my table?

After the install, edit /etc/fstab to not mount the three NTFS partitions. If you don't need access to them in linux, there's no need to mount them in fstab.

i had the same problem. format the one u dont need to ntfs. make sure its big enougih for linux. if it isnt then redistribute space. then wen u goto linux installation, "delete" that partition and make a / and a swap/ out of that one partition.
