Partition Quirk
 

In PCLinux, the partition tool is acting funny.
1. Since yesterday I do not see a button to mount the partition.
2. Since yesterday, on trying to save the changes to fstab, it tells me to format a FAT partition which is already formatted and loaded with data.

I can use the mount command, and all partitions and data within are accessible. Running dosfsck on the troubling partition shows no errors. I emphasis the "since yesterday" part since it worked fine till then, and there have been no improper shutdowns or unclean mountings in the meantime.

What is going on?

since its been a week I will try to start the ball rolling.

1) are you talking about a live cd function or hard drive install?

2) is the device you are talking ...the fat one....usb storage?

can you show what command you are using to mount please'

eg assuming usb

mount -t vfat /dev/sdb1 /mnt/usb

that way we can give advice on your fstab so we also need the current line of your fstab pls

1. The hard drive installation.
2. The device is the hard drive in which Linux is installed. The other partitions are not being mounted.

I am not using any commands, rather using the mount button in the partition tool in PC Linux, which makes it extremely convenient to deal with partitions and fstab.

What I ended up doing was deleting the entries for the other partitions in the fstab file. The next time I rebooted, the mount button was back on.
