I'm using the above link to set up Slackware 10 on a box. The thing is I don't know much about cyclinders. I have 1110 cylinders on my drive. His harddrive has 4865. What I want to know is how should I set up my partitions? Are all those partitions called for? I have 256mb of ram. Ive only tried the simply install distro's like SuSe and Mandrake. My friend has Slackware and I really like it. The only problem is he can't help me because he is in Iraq now. Thanks, Chris |
You probably want to at least set up a partition for / /usr /var /home and the swap partition. Roughly speaking, usually, the number of cylinders on a hard drive is proportional to its size (in MB, GB), sectors per track being 63 and number of heads being 255. So, your hard drive is probably 4 times smaller than the one in the example that you are going by. Consequently, divide the size of all of the partitions in the example by 4 and setup the resulting partitions on your drive.
