Partition erased -> Grub f****d up :(

hi,

to start off: i'm a total linux newbie. some months ago i installed red hat 9 because i wanted to try it out, but I somehow didn't find the time to really get into it. Anyway, today i thought, this red hat partition is just blocking hdd space, why not erase it with partition magic....

well, unfortunately I didn't think of the boot program (i think grub 0.93). After I erased the linux partitions i rebooted the computer, but of course, grub didn't work anymore. Instead of the boot menu only a text input appears. reinstalling windows 2000, formatting my windows partiton etc. didn't work. Can you tell me how I get my windows to work again?

Sorry I'm so stupid :/

Thanks for your help.

Hi marty25,

there're some fuzzled points in your post, but I'll try to explain what to do, according to what I've understand.

First of all, to get rid of the GRUB's corpse, I'd suggest you boot from the Win2k install CD and go into Rescue System console, the type there fixmbr /Devices/HardDisk0. This should fix the MBR on the hda disk. If you you have more than one HDD, then making primary boot disk, the disk where you've Win2k installed, should allow you to boot directly to Win2k.

Kind regards,
sbogus
