packages not found

Im trying to install an IRC client called kvirc. I follow the instructions and get this during the installation:

checking for gcc... no
checking for cc... no
checking for cc... no
checking for cl... no
configure: error: no acceptable C compiler found in $PATH
$

I figure, I need to install a compiler. No problem. So I go to "Packages" in RH8. And select some Developmental Tools to install. Instead of asking me to insert the CD, I get a message:

"Packages Not Found"

The following packages could not be found on your sustem.
Installation Cannot coninue....

unlocatable package|required by

cyrus-sasl = 2.1.7-2 cyrus-sasl-devel
krb5-libs = 1.2.5-6 kvr5-devel

I cant find these listed anywhere in the "Packages" menus

Ive installed packages before and RH is smart enough to install any depencies automatically. Why is this any different?

you need the all the development packages
to do this either put the RH disk in and use package manager

or easier

put disk 1 in
reboot
choose "upgrade existing system"
choose development from the menu
install it all
update bootloader
reboot
sorted
