Overwrite XP completely!!!
Its been a long time since i came to this forum...Is there any distro which will completely take over my XP OS without creating partions and all??? also i have other partitions which are ntfs and backing them up would take a hell lot of time,so is there any way i can convert them to ext3 or reiserfs without losing data???

Sorry for my questions but i would like to know...

you will need to reformat / recreate partitions when you install a different operating system. you can probably re use the partition you have if you only want that same level of partitioning, but it's pretty irrelevant as you'll reformat it, so i don't understand what your concern is there. as for NTFS, it's not possible to convert, no. but it is possible to read / write to it as a seperate non-core data partition, using drivers like ntfs-3g.

thanks acid....I don't know much about the ntfs-3g driver.... But can you lemme know if there are distros which have ntfs read/write inbuilt...

afaik just about all modern ones contain it. if not, it's easy to install yourself.

Thanks a lot mate...It was fast...

Ubuntu Gutsy has 3g NTFS read/write build in, works great for me. Codec buddy allows you to automatically download codecs for anything you might need (also installed by default). Lots of open source games in the repos but they are also easily installed from the game's own website.
