Overview of the boot process??

I have this Arcade/Redemption game called "Deal or No Deal" It is game where you play Deal or No Deal like on TV and you can win tickets. The computer died and I am having trouble getting it working. The restore disc installs drivers specific to a particular motherboard which I can no longer get and it is hanging while searching for a particular I/O board. The restore disc uses LILO and I don't have a clue on what it is doing. I do know that one of the last things I see are MODPROBE messages while the game is attempting to load.

Is there a way to step through the loading of the program and if so how would I do that? Where would the MODPROBE type loading instructions take place?

Can I stop the loading and just get to a prompt of some sort so that I can single step through the load file and find out which one is not working and dig into that?

You can see I haven't a clue on how this whole thing works but if I can get an idea on where to start it might make this easer to understand. If I wasn't under a time constraint I would just get a book and read, but I am in a rush. Any idea on how do go about figuring this out?
Thank you

If this is deemed hacking, the post may be removed. I am unsure of it's intend just yet.

I'd look at the disk. Mount it as a loop to see the data. I'd maybe try it also on a few virtual machines too just for grins.

I'd make a raw image of the original drive and mount it in a system too to see more info.

That is about all I can give not knowing more about this deal. What exactly is this deal? Where can you get it or give more info about it.

This isn't hacking, as in trying to get something for free by changing the software. I am troubleshooting a problem with the Linux computer that runs this game. Remember when we were kids and would go to those places that had Skee Ball, and basketball games where you would win tickets and exchange them for prizes. This is a newer type of game that goes in those arcade centers. It is made by and this is their page on it.
These games aren't cheap, this one was 15K and their parts aren't cheap either. They are always vague on support questions and their answer is usually to buy a new part from them. The Motherboard went out and they wanted to only sell me a complete new computer. I found a Mother board that should work according to others but I am having a problem during the boot process.

The game comes up with a LILO message. I read a little about this and I guess this is a boot process that sets up the game, and hangs with the last thing stating MODPROBE Nvdia Is there a way to step through the loading and figure out what it is looking for and not finding? That is basically what I need to figure out.

Thank you
