Over my head

I just bought suse 8.2. I have a gigabyte 7vaxp ultra with the fasttrak 133 lite. I can not get it to see my hard drives. I went to promise and downloaded there "new driver" and followed the directions. When it starts out it seems fine but when i guess it looking on the the disk for the new infofile it hangs Also my drives are format ntfs. Does this matter??? Can anyone help or direct me in the right direction. I really excited about get this up and running and getting rid of xp. I just think i need a little help. I will learn. Thanks

So Suse tells you that you do not have ANY harddisks in your system? Or how exactly does your problem show itself?
It would help if you could wipe the partitions with a tool like partition magic, and set them to ext3 (or whatever you want to choose then).
Generally I would recommend to use a independent partition tool (or the linux one, if it has the treshhold of user-friendlyness that you need/like) to see what partition you have and if the HD is recognized correctly.
Your partitions might be hidden, although that is usually only done with recovery partitions on preinstalled systems.
