OutLook Express


Hi

I am running a mail server (sendmail) on my linux machine, I also have windows XP machine on my LAN (Workgroup based) I wanna know I can configure OutLook Express client to view mails from Linux mail server, if yes then please let me know how to proceed.

Not sure why you'd want to use Outlook Express when there are better and free alternatives like Thunderbird but if you setup POP or IMAP access from your sendmail server, shouldn't have any problems accessing your email.

Just make sure you have some type of POP3 running (dovecot or something) and that you have port 110 open on your server if the firewall is enabled.

In Outlook Express (or whatever POP3 client you use) set your mail server as both the POP3 and SMTP server and you should be good to go. Not much to it, really. I used to be the net admin for a Credit Union that typically used Outlook Express (or Outlook with POP3 settings) connecting to a SuSe mail server using OpenXchange. Client setup is very easy as long as the server is runnig the correct daemons.
