orinoco wireless pc-card

I just install mandrake 8.2 and I am trying to setup the orinoco wireless pc-card. I can tell the card is support because when I open the control panel center I see it says wavelan_cs.
the configuration as me for these information,

wireless_ESSID
wireless_SENS
wireless_RTS
wireless_FRAG
wireless_RATE
wireless_ENC_KEY
wireless_NWID
wireless_IWCONFIG
wireless_IWSPY
wireless_IWPRIV
I have a dsl connection and I have been surfing the web for many hours, but the information that I got was to broad.

sincerely, clint

goto www.linuxdoc.org and read wireless howto
+ check kernel docs on your card

it doesn't mean that your card is supported if linux tried to guess the card

The wireless how-to is so old as to be entirely worthless. The Lucent/orinoco series of card is entirely supported, actually, the best supported under linux aside from possibly those $200 cisco cards that I can only drool about.

What exactly do you need to set? essid refers to the name of the wireless network, sens, frag, rts, nwid you can all leave at defaults. rate is probably defaulted to auto, which is where it should be, and iwspy and iwpriv are utilities to further tweak the aspects of the card.

Also, if you want answers before the time I next reply, search through the forums using just the keyword "wireless" and you'll probably find more out that you ever wanted to know.

Cheers,

Finegan
