i have tried to install oracle 10g to my Ubuntu 10.10 but i always get this error every time i try. can any body tell me what am lacking. the error is "E: Package 'oracle-xe' has no installation candidate"

It means the package you asked for, oracle-xe, doesn't exist in your release of Ubuntu. Try doing a search under using "oracle" as a keyword and see what comes up. What made you think that there was a package called oracle-xe?

Why don't you download an 10g-ex RPM from Oracle
and use alien. Also, you need to register with Oracle. If you want to be conservative use a live CD to test it. Also, search on the web using 'ubuntu help' and check out the community Peruse it alot first instead of forums. hth |
