Is it possible to install Oracle 8i on RedHat 9? If so, how? After installing Oracle 8i I noticed I could not start the database. I was getting some error like "cannot open shared file: libclntsh.so.8.0 " after creating a startup script and issuing the "service oracle start" command. I would get that error when the script reached the Apache, HTTP stuff. Installed client and still did not work! I believe I did everything right by installing the correct jre - jdk118_v3-glibc-2.1.3.tar.bz2, glibc file - glibc-2.1.3-stubs.tar.gz, edititng profiles, etc but i'm stuck! Please help???
