Options Gone at Start-up

I have just put Kubuntu onto my computer and the first time I loaded it I got the normal screen which offered me the option as to how I wanted to proceed. Now when I start the computer it automatically goes to Ubuntu and I don't get the option to how I want it loaded.
As i'm sure you can see from this question I am a newbie. Thanks in advance. Fred

Kubuntu or Ubuntu?

First of all, are you using Kubuntu or Ubuntu? Both are different distros. Which option to proceed? do you mean the bootloader? lilo/grub? Are you using linux with windows as dual boot? Give us more info as the info you provide us is not enough. :)

Sorry about the lack of info. I am using Ubuntu and only linux and this is what is more confusing for me. When it starts up the Kubuntu (Blue Screen)shows and then goes to the Ubuntu (Orange Screen) and then loads without the option icon in the lower right corner and then completes the loading. I hope this makes more sense. Fred

Which version did you install? If you installed just Ubuntu you will not get the blue Kubuntu screen...unless after you installed Ubuntu you downloaded the Kubuntu desktop. Is this what you did? If so, which do you want to see, Ubuntu (gnome desktop) or Kubuntu (KDE desktop)?

When you ask about the options icon, is this the screen where you put in your user name and password?

Firstep 04-13-2007 11:45 AM

The version is Ubunutu 6.i0, and yes I think that I must have put in the Kubuntu desktop, I want the Ubanutu desktop, as I mentioned before is that when I turn on the computer the first screen I see is the word Kubuntu in blue and then it changes to the Ubuntu screen (Orange) and then finishes loading.
The question about the missing icon was about the icon that allowed you to enter the same as last time, kde, safemode etc.

You can go back to synaptic and select the Kubuntu desktop and choose completely remove and that should fix it back up.

The missing button is odd. Is the login screen still orange like the ubuntu colors?

Got the kunbutu desktop out and as far as the button/icon missing it is still missing,so will have to do more searching.
After crawling/walking around this planet for over 72 years I felt like I needed a new challange, as well as something to do with the old laptop besides making a door stop out of it.
Thanks for the help, Fred

This may be as simple as making sure your window manager is set to gdm. I am at work right now and off the top of my head I cannot recall where to change that.
