Optimising SSD drive for Linux Mint 17
 

As you are all aware there is a slew of information on the internet about how and what is nessesaary to optimise an SSD drive to prolong the life of the drive & get the most speed out of it. So much of it is out of date that I don't know what to follow anymore.

So my question is basically what steps do I need to do if any to optimise my SSD drive to keep its lifespan in relative good health and get the most out of my drive.

Here is how I set up and installed my distro of Linux Mint 17:
On my SSD drive I just have the / partition formatted to EXT4, it contains both my boot and root along with the OS. On another HDD drive I have my /Home folder and /Swap partitions. /home is naturally EXT4 also and /swap is swap. I did it this way when I installed LM16 for furture upgrades so I could keep all my system settings and all my files without having to restore them everytime I install a new version of Linux. So when I installed LM17 I just let it wipe and format my SSD drive and left alone my /home and /swap partitions on my HDD drive after the install all my files were there on my HDD drive and all my setting such as my Oracle Virtual box key, my Conky script, etc. All I needed to do was reinstall my apps that were not included with the OS that I use.

So if I can get an up to date answer on what if anything I need to do to my SDD drive for optimal performance I would greatly apreciate it.

Be sure not to mix old information & newer information when setting up a 'SSD' for your system.

These links do provide some helpful information. But you should be aware of your 'SSD' specifications. You can use these to aid in understanding 'SSD' setups.
