I have a problem with the cd/dvd drive on my recently installed Mandriva 2008.0
If I try to write data to it I get this message - "Could not start process Unable to create io-slave: klauncher said: Unknown protocol ''."
First noticed it when I was trying to do a backup through Mandriva control centre - the backup fails with: - "Error: Does not appear to be recordable media!"
Drive shows up in Konquerer and will read data OK, but not write. Works OK with other distros and livecds etc
My first guess would be a permission problem. If you are trying (as user) to write to a directory forbidden to you, you will get write permission errors.
I had some problems with my cd/dvd writer in the past in Mandriva, it was not detected correctly by the system, but after a simple reboot it worked by itself. I think the drive was not correctly detected from the beginning. You could also try to burn a cd with some other software, maybe it will work.
