OpenSuse used 3 cds instead of 5. Why?
 

I downloaded the five OpenSuse cds for my Linux installation. After the 3rd cd was installed, the process finished without ever referring to the other 2 discs. Did something get left out? Has anyone else had this same experience. If it matters, I chose the Gnome setup during installation.

By the way, the only problems I have so far is 1)no sound. Computer is a Gateway laptop. I get the error messages saying "unable to write" something, when I run the "test" routine. Other problem is no wireless internet access. It worked fine with Windows XP, but not now(my Windows XP is completely removed, too). I have a Linksys wireless router.

Any advice and help is greatly appreciated. The software really does look good.

Probably you didn't install any packages for the 4th and 5th CDs. This is not unusual with many Linux distributions as less commonly used packages are kept on the last CD.

As for the sound and network, can you post specs of your sound card and wireless network card?

Before broadband and DVDs became common household items, many would buy/borrow/burn copies of distros on CD. Suse used be known for having the most bang for the buck. Where most would supply 1 to 3 CD's, Suse gave you 5 or more.

Like bitmiller said, during your install process, you did not select any packages to install that are on disks 4 and 5.
