OpenSUSE Installation

OK guys here's one for ya. I installed opensuse from DVD and number one I think its running live from the DVD because it never asked me about installation preferences.
The second is that during the customization processi changed something to do with the display settings and now the screen is white and I can't revert.

When you boot from the DVD it should prompt you about whether you want to install to disk or just run from the DVD, I believe the default is to run from the DVD so you might have just hit enter and been on your way. If that's the case, it doesn't matter what you changed in regards to the display settings because as soon as you reboot everything will reset back to the standard config.

OK so iyried the reboot and without the disk. It still loaded to the white screen. As soon as the desktop loaded the screen turns white.

Then you must have gone through the installation steps. It should have asked you to set up your desired partitioning layout, package selection, user account, root password, etc.

As for your current problem, what did you change in the display settings that started the problem?

Sure, just install like you did the first time. When you boot from the DVD, make sure you don't pick the option "boot from local hard disk" or whatever it may be called, because then it just bypasses the DVD and boots the version on your hard drive, which is having the problems. You want to pick the option that says install.

No, no I specifacally chose to boot from cd-rom. I'm not sure why it's doing this. I know for sure that it do an installation, but yet it's on the hdd. I've already had opensuse on the disk booted from a sd-card. I can't figure out what happened and now I don't know what I should do.

When you boot, are you prompt to a log in screen? are you using Gnome or KDE? can you select to enter a session in IceWM or any other windows manager? if you re installed and it went to a black screen perhaps you video card is not being detected?

can you aleast get a terminal by typing Ctrl+Alt+F2 ? and run all upgrades by typing
Code:

sudo zypper up

When you boot to a new OpenSuse DVD it should show a green screen or welcome. The next screen ought to be a choice. The second choice ought to be install I think.

Did you see the above links for a choice?

If you made the DVD from Susestudio that is a different deal.
