Not sure what you're asking about cd/dvd burner, hardware or software. If hardware, look at the HCL (Hardware Compatability List) for your distro. If it works in linux (which has tight standards), it will almost certainly work in windoze (very loose standards).

Yoy don't say which desktop you're using (kde, gnome, etc.) but many susers use gimp for photo editing. There are several other choices. Lokk under "graphics" and "Photography" in start menu. Viewer depends, how do you plan to use it, single picture or album?
